Introduction to Distance-Learning

Dear Grade 8 Music Rotations Students, Parents, and Guardians,

My heart goes out to all of you who are missing your friends, familiar pastimes, and regular routines. I hope you are adapting to online learning with the resilience I know you all have.

In the study of music, we are very fortunate in our flexibility of learning opportunities. Although current technology will not support the effectiveness or satisfaction of a live music class, there are alternative ways to engage musicianship during this time. Moving into the next few months, we have the opportunity to cultivate the following:

1) Music Appreciation

The range of music available is incredible! Moving forward, we will be using videos to immerse ourselves into different worlds of music. Feel free to share the experience with the people in your home; together, you can discuss your thoughts, feelings, and reflections.

2) Critical and Reflective Thinking

Following the video, you will respond to a series of questions provided. Take this opportunity to guide me through your thought-process and fully demonstrate your learning. Take care with your responses as your submissions will make up your Term 3 mark.

How it will work:

Delivery of Content: An email will be sent to students every Monday. In this email, students will find video links and follow-up questions.
Throughout the week: In the week, students watch the videos at home. They are encouraged to invite others in their household to share the experience with them. After watching and discussing, students will respond to the questions with thought and care (accepted platforms include word document, google document, and in the body of an email).
Submission: Students will submit their work to me via email to claire_oliverio@sd42.ca every Friday of that same week.

Please format your email with the subject heading:

Music 8 – Week 1, Music 8 – Week 2, Music 8 – Week 3, etc.

You can save this email for your use. However, if you need to access information (instructions, weekly assignments, response questions, etc.) please refer to my website at any time. Everything I send out will be posted there: msclaireoliverio.edublogs.org.

If you have any questions, please feel free to get in touch with me. I understand you may have been receiving an overwhelming number of emails. Remember that your health and well-being are the top priority; I am here for you throughout this learning process. Take care.

Warmly,

Ms. Claire Oliverio
