2019 – 2020 Season

Rehearsals take place on TUESDAY from 2:45 – 5:00 am.

 

This performance ensemble is for senior choral students who enjoy singing challenging, unaccompanied repertoire of every style. This performance group will sing a variety of repertoire such as classical and contemporary music. The Chamber Choir will require students to learn the basics of a cappella in a comfortable group setting. Not only will students see an increase in performance skills and musicality, but also in self-confidence, presence, and the ability to work as part of a team. It is expected that students who take this course will also be enrolled in Concert Choir. Entry into the course will require a voice placement assessment.

Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

• Joyfully sing with competence and confidence in a Soprano/Alto/Tenor/Bass ensemble
• Understand healthy vocal technique when using the voice and body as a musical instrument
• Understand basic musical symbols, terms, and directions; respond to them in musical repertoire
• Perform repertoire that encompasses different styles including but not limited to folk, classical, jazz, and pop
• Develop an appreciation for the different styles of music through performance, discussion, and listening
• Understand the importance and responsibility of each member’s role as an individual singer and as a contributing voice in an ensemble
• Understand the concepts of blend and balance within sections and across the ensemble
• Demonstrate stage presence and performance etiquette that is reflective of artists who take pride in sharing musical experiences
• Cultivate a community of like-minded people who respect and celebrate the value of music

 

 

Evaluation:

10%	RemindApp The advancement of technology has made it possible for open communication amongst educators and learners in a safe forum! At the beginning of each term, students are awarded 10% for downloading the RemindApp on their device, joining their specific ensemble (link provided), and keeping up to date with posted information (announcements, important dates, repertoire recordings, etc.).
10%	Service “A lot of people doing a little, is better than a few people doing a lot.” The success of a music department is achieved through every person lending a helping hand. For every music event and performance opportunity, students are recognized for aiding in set-up, stage crew, and clean-up.
10%	Sectionals In ensembles with complex voice divisions (SATB), additional rehearsals for individual sections are necessary to strengthen the choral harmony. Students are committed to attending all assigned sectionals (scheduled during FLEX blocks).
20%	Musicianship Throughout the year, students will strengthen their overall understanding and appreciation of music. Through the combination of effort during class (bringing all required materials: pencil, highlighter, music, folder), improvement between rehearsals, willingness to seek extra support if having trouble, leadership within the ensemble, and general music-ability based on assessments, students can be rewarded for their growth-process.
50%	Performances Music is a transformative art-form that nurtures human connection. By participating in ensemble performances, students enrichen learning opportunities by practicing preparation, collaboration, production, and dedication; all valuable skills reflected in this section. MRSS Musicians are committed to showcasing this learning through choral performances.
